SAFE HAVEN PROJECT

2024-2025

September 21, 2024- September 20, 2025

Mission and Objective:

The Safe Haven Project aims to deliver essential aid to 1,000 Burmese refugee families living in IDP communities in Thailand. Our goal is to ensure that these families receive the necessary resources to survive the ongoing crisis while also providing emotional and spiritual support to help them rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Safe Haven Project: Operation Framework

The ongoing crisis in Myanmar has driven thousands of families from their homes, forcing them to seek refuge in Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps along the Thailand-Myanmar border. These displaced families, including a large number of children, face daily struggles to access basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. In response to this urgent need, the Christian Outreach Center (COC) launched the Safe Haven Project to provide critical relief and support to these vulnerable communities.

Target Communities: The primary areas of operation include:
  • Mae Sot, Tak Province: home to multiple IDP camps near the Myanmar border.

  • Mae Sai Province: hosting smaller clusters of refugee families.

  • Priority will be given to 1,000 vulnerable families in these regions, with a focus on children, the elderly, and those with urgent healthcare needs.

Resource Distribution

The Safe Haven Project will distribute essential resources on a monthly basis to address the immediate needs of the refugee families. These resources include:

  • Food Supplies: 10 kg of rice, beans, dried fish, cooking oil, and other non-perishables per family.

  • Shelter Support: blankets, mosquito nets, and clothing.

  • Healthcare Kits: basic medical supplies and hygiene products.

  • Special Provisions: baby formula and nutritional supplements for children, elderly care items for seniors.

Distribution points will be strategically set up in key IDP locations, ensuring the process is safe, organized, and accessible to all families.

Community Support and Encouragement

Beyond material aid, the Safe Haven Project aims to provide emotional and spiritual support to refugee families. Activities include:

  • Counseling Services: to help families process trauma, displacement, and loss.

  • Faith-Based Support: pastoral visits, prayer circles, and Bible studies for those seeking spiritual guidance.

  • Community Gathering: periodic events to foster unity, build connections, and promote a sense of belonging.

Special Programs

To further uplift these communities, the project will implement special initiatives:

  • Children's Outreach Program: providing educational resources, toys, and recreational activities to support the mental well-being of children in IDP camps.

  • Women’s Empowerment Workshops: offering skill-building sessions to help women gain the tools and confidence to generate income or support their families in practical ways.

  • Health Awareness Campaigns: focusing on preventive health education, hygiene practices, and maternal health to reduce disease outbreaks in the camps.

  • Building Shelter and Sustainable Source of Living.

  • Mobile Clinic

Operational Timeline

The Safe Haven Project will be rolled out in three phases:

  • Phase 1 (October-December): Set up logistics, secure resources, and conduct the first 2 rounds of distribution in preparation for the Christmas season outreach.

  • Phase 2 (January-April): Regular monthly distribution of supplies and implementation ospecial programs.

  • Phase 3 (May-October): Monitoring, evaluating impact, adjusting resource distribution as needed, and continuing emotional/spiritual support.

Volunteer Involvement

Volunteers are a critical component of the Safe Haven Project’s success. Roles include:

  • Logistics Support: assisting with packaging and distributing supplies.

  • Healthcare Volunteers: providing medical check-ups and health education.

  • Emotional Support Team: trained counselors and pastoral care providers.

  • Children’s Program Leaders: organizing and supervising educational and recreational activities for children.

  • Volunteers will be trained prior to deployment to ensure they are well-prepared to work in sensitive environments.

Monitoring and Reporting

The project will incorporate a robust monitoring and reporting process to ensure accountability and effectiveness:

  • Monthly Reports: tracking the number of families served, resources distributed, and outcomes of special programs.

  • Beneficiary Feedback: regular surveys and interviews with refugee families to assess their needs and the impact of the project.

  • Financial Audits: conducted quarterly to review expenditures and ensure funds are being used in line with donor expectations.

  • Impact Reports: shared with sponsors and partners to demonstrate the tangible outcomes of their support and the progress of the project.

Together, these elements form the foundation of the Safe Haven Project’s efforts to bring relief, hope, and a brighter future to 1,000 Burmese refugee families.
